Taking to Twitter in his usual manner, Elon Musk has revealed some more key details regarding Tesla’s upcoming pickup truck. Among these details are hints at the starting price, driving dynamics, and capability.

Aside from the expected 400-500 miles of range, “crazy” amount of torque that will be on tap, and the futuristic design language, Musk has also indicated that the price will begin under $50,000. This price would be a game changer, as Rivian is set to have much higher base prices of nearly $70,000 before any tax credits. If this price point is actually achievable, the Tesla pickup will be positioned squarely against a range of full-size trucks from Ram, Ford, and Chevrolet.

To further separate itself from traditional pickups, Tesla is also planning to give the pickup more sporting characteristics. Musk’s Twitter posts say that goal for the Tesla pickup is to “be a better sports car than a standard 911.” It’s unclear exactly which metrics are being used to compare the truck to the 911, but we expect it means that the truck will handle with much more precision than many buyers are accustomed to from their mainstream pickups, no doubt aided by its low-mounted battery packs.

Finally, Musk also said they are working to make the pickup more functional and capable than a Ford F-150. With so much torque available in an electric vehicle, towing capacity could be quite high.

With lofty claims like these, we’ll have to see the truck in action to believe it. Still though, Tesla has surprised us before and is very capable of doing so again. With the truck due to be revealed later this year, expect a steady trickle of new information in the interim.
